Lyons Township High School Names New Principal

Brian Waterman will come to LT next summer after six years as principal at Hinsdale South.

The following message is from Lyons Township High School:

The Lyons Township High School Board of Education Monday announced and introduced Dr. Brian P. Waterman as the new District 204 principal, beginning in the 2014-2015 school year.  He will replace Principal David Franson, who is retiring June 30 after a decade of service to the district and its students.

Waterman began his career in education in 1999 as a business education teacher at Westmont High School. In 2003, he served as an assistant principal at Westmont High School for two years and then three years at Glenbard North High School. He is currently the principal at Hinsdale South High School, a position he has held for the past six years.

“I am excited and honored to be appointed the next principal at Lyons Township High School and I look forward to working collaboratively with the students, staff, and community as we continue to further the culture of success that is evident at LT,” Waterman said in a statement.

“Being a principal is about leadership and building positive interpersonal relationships. As principal, my role is to work with our leadership team to view every program, decision, outcome, initiative and event through a critical lens with laser-like focus to continuously improve the services we provide students and community,” he added.

“Dr. Waterman brings credible and effective experience as a teacher, building administrator and principal with him to LT – all of which will help make for a smooth transition. He sets an excellent example of being a lifelong learner, and his emphasis on creating a culture of high expectations for students and staff is consistent with our district’s century-long mission,” said Superintendent Dr. Timothy Kilrea.

The pool for this position was narrowed from 50 applicants, to eight candidates interviewed, to three finalists. The selection process was very competitive, with high quality, impressive candidates. “LT is thrilled with our selection. Feedback from those on each of the interview teams to discussions with students at the site visit centered on several consistent messages – Dr. Waterman is student focused, well respected by teachers, appreciative of all parents, approachable and fair. I look forward to welcoming him to the LT family,” Kilrea said.

Waterman received a Bachelor of Science in Business and Master of Business Administration (MBA) both from Eastern Illinois University, a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from North Central College and a doctoral degree (Ed.D) in Leadership and Administration from Aurora University. His doctoral dissertation was related to the value that technology plays in a comprehensive suburban high school. Dr. Waterman signed a one-year contract with a salary of $163,120.
