La Grange Park Installs Drug Collection Box

Drug collection box available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in La Grange Park.

La Grange Park Police Chief Daniel McCollum last week announced the Village of La Grange Park has installed a permanent collection box for residents to get rid of extra prescription drugs.

The box was installed after the success of several Drug Take Back days held in the village, according to a news release from the La Grange Park Police Department.

La Grange Park is one of about a dozen municipalities in Cook County to install a permanent drug box, according to the release.

"We were moved by the overwhelming response from the community during our previous one-day collection programs and thought that having a permanent collection box was something that could truly assist the community, McCollum said.

He said people often discard unwanted prescription drugs in the trash or flush them down the toilet, which could lead to others' drug use or lower water quality.

The disposal box will be available at the police department 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
