Beginning Wednesday, May 30, the La Grange Park Library entrance will temporarily be located at the back of the building, leading into the downstairs Children's Department. The parking lot will also be closed as part of the reconfiguration of the front entrance  to make it compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and improve ease of access for all pedestrians.

Parking will be available on the street during this phase of the construction, and signs will be posted directing visitors to the back door. Those needing assistance into the building may ring the doorbell at the back entrance, and staff will provide that accommodation.

The Library sidewalk and parking lot are being reconfigured to address pedestrian safety and ease of access to the front entrance.  When the Library was constructed in 1989, the ADA was not yet law, although accessibility standards for the time were followed. Construction is expected to be completed over the summer and will not disrupt Library service.

The project is funded by a $50,000 grant awarded to the Library through the Live and Learn Construction Grant Program of the Illinois State Library. The balance is covered by the Library's capital reserve fund.

The staff at the check-out counter are extememly knowlegable, friendly and helpful. The reference and administrative staff likewise provide excellent service.

Their website provides an easy-to-use calender of events and programs offered, as well as the schedule of Friends of the Library meetings and the library's board of trustees' monthly meeting.
