Village Gets Green Light to Shop for Power

Nearly 69 percent of La Grange Park voters say yes to electrical aggregation.

La Grange Park residents favored a proposal to allow the village to shop for electrical power on their behalf, by a margin of 5,558 to 3,454. Approval of the March 20 referendum means the village will be able to negotiate for electrical power with suppliers on behalf of residential customers and small retail customers, without asking each customer individually. Group buying is expected to result in lower electrical bills for consumers. The village of La Grange Park approved putting the referendum on the ballot at a Dec. 13, 2011 village board meeting. The board had reservations, but ultimately voted 5-0 in favor of adding a referendum. Trustee Rimas Kozica voted present.  Following passage of the referendum, the village is required to hold…

Durkin Takes Landslide Victory in 82nd District

The incumbent Republican representative defeated challenger Laura Reigle with 75 percent of the vote.

There will be a familiar face on the November ballot for the Illinois House’s 82nd District. Incumbent State Rep. Jim Durkin won the district’s Republican nomination with 75.4 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Laura Reigle. No one ran in the 82nd District Democratic primary, which means Durkin will be running unopposed in the general election, barring the appointment of a Democratic candidate. “We’ve got significant challenges ahead of us,” Durkin said Tuesday night. “I’m honored Republican voters in the 82nd District have confidence that I’m the best candidate to represent their interests in Springfield.” With the primary over, Durkin said the Illinois General Assembly now faces a month-and-a-half of tough discussions as they work…

Congrats to State Rep. Jim Durkin on his reelection to the Illinois House. Laura Reigle has been exposed as a fraud, liar and fake Conservative who has no right running as a Conservative. She is a Democrat masquerading as a conservative. Guess what Laura you may have fooled the Lemont Tea Party but you didn't fool anyone else. The Lemont Tea Party is a complete failure for supporting you and your…   more ›

Welch Beats Hoskins By 15 Votes in 7th House

The Hillside resident eked out a victory by the absolute smallest of margins over the Forest Park

With a final two precincts finally reporting after midnight on Wednesday, Emanuel "Chris" Welch (D-Hillside) has emerged at the victor over Rory Hoskins (D-Forest Park) by a mere 15 votes in the race to secure the Democratic nomination for the Illinois House 7th District. If the razor-thin margin holds up to any challenges, it will essentially put Welch in office, as no Republican challengers have filed for the general election in the House 7th in November. Welch is currently serving as Proviso D209 Board President. The race has no incumbent. Patch towns covered in part by the House 7th District include River Forest, La Grange Park and Western Springs. The House 7th also covers parts or all of Westchester, Bellwood, Hillside, Berkeley, …

Grabowski Beats Falvey for 3rd District GOP Nomination

The Hometown resident won out over the Western Springs newcomer by over a 2-1 margin.

Factory-supervisor Rich Grabowski handily won the Republican nomination in the Illinois 3rdCongressional District. Grabowski, a constitutional conservative, faces Democratic Congressman Dan Lipinski in November. The Hometown man beat Western Springs-attorney Jim Falvey in a 2-to-1 landslide. Perennial fringe candidate and Holocaust denier Arthur J. Jones of Lyons came in a distant third. Grabowski won 59 percent of the vote with 20,536, followed by Falvey with 29 percent or 10,287, and Jones capturing 10 percent with 3,797. Asked what he was going to do next, Grabowski answered, “sleep.” “I haven’t done that for awhile,” he continued. “Tomorrow I will start work at 6:30 a.m. and see if I have further discussions with my boss.” Grabowski …

Lipinski Wins Huge in Primary Over Baqai

With nearly 90 percent of the vote, incumbent Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Western Springs) has easily cruised by challenger Farah Baqai.

Incumbent Democratic 3rd District Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-Western Springs) easily won the Democratic nomination to run for his fifth term in Congress on Tuesday, defeating challenger Farah Baqai by a vote margin of nearly 9-1. Faqai was challenging the moderate Lipinski from the left, but stood virtually no chance against a Lipinski name that is a perennial force in Cook County Democratic politics. “Tomorrow we go back to work—the work never ends,” Lipinski told supporters in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge. “I’m working to make sure that people who do bring a hard day’s work [and] who play by the rules get rewarded. That’s the most important thing. That’s what I stand for, and that’s why today we’ve come through with a big victory with your help.” …

Mitt Romney Visits Wheaton Home on Primary Night

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney attends a reception in his honor in Wheaton Tuesday night.

Mitt Romney stopped in Wheaton for an unpublicized private reception at a home in the 1400 block of Forest Avenue Tuesday night. Romney, awaiting the results of Illinois' Republican presidential primary, greeted children and other neighbors who gathered outside waving American flags and chanting “Mitt for President!” as he arrived. Neighbors said they received notice of the event earlier this week. Romney was scheduled to travel to Schaumburg for his Illinois election night party. We're on Facebook. Click here to like us!
