The board held off from making election days a permanent student holiday.
The District 102 School Board voted Thursday to shift a teacher institute day from Jan. 21, 2014, to March 18, 2014, so students will not be in the buildings at the same time as voters. I'm one of the people who, had this been passed earlier on, would have been affected by this bill. Having a summer birthday, I was able to vote in the general elections, which I proudly did despite having thousands of miles between me and my polling place as I was out of the country on a gap year program. Someone who is that committed to polling ought to be allowed to at least vote for a …   more ›
