Painted Cookies
I love decorating cookies, especially to match an invitation or logo. One technique that I’ve been trying out lately is “painting” on an iced cookie. This technique allows you to use food coloring (the paint) with a little water and your imagination.
I don’t profess to be an artist but it is fun to try something new and push your creative boundaries. Sometimes it’s also easier for some people to paint rather than use icing to outline and fill in each cookie. Here are some quick steps to get you started:
Start with a cookie that has a base coat of dried icing. Make sure the icing has 12-24 hours to dry before you start painting.
Next, use gel based food coloring that you can get online, at Michael’s, or JoAnne Fabric stores. It’s also handy if you are working with a pallet tray to mix the colors.
Using your paintbrush, add a little color on to the pallet tray. Then add a couple of drops of water and mix until you get a consistency that isn’t too runny. Now you are ready to paint. Be sure to have a paper towel handy to wipe off excess paint before applying to the cookie. Let the painted cookie dry overnight.
