VIDEO: Hundreds Run to Support Boston

More than 300 area runners participated in a solidarity run organized through The Runner's Soul in La Grange on Monday. "Runners for Boston" T-shirts were sold to raise money for those impacted by the Boston Marathon explosions.

One week after the tragic Boston Marathon explosions, America's runners aren't hiding. They're running.

And hundreds of area runners turned out in La Grange on Monday to show support for Boston and raise money for victims. The Runner's Soul organized a solidarity run, one of many occurring Monday across the country.

About 250 people registered for the run, and even more came out when runners took to the streets. The run was 2.62 miles, indicating the 26.2-mile marathon ran in Boston.

Many people came to show solidarity and help raise money for One Fund Boston, which was set up to raise money for the victims, by purchasing a $20 T-shirt that said "Runners for Boston."

"We're here just to show support," Countryside resident John Bocian said. "We're just recreational runners."

Bocian said his wife knew someone in the marathon this year, and a friend of his participated in 2012, as did one of his daughter's teachers.

Others who participated Monday ran in the Boston Marathon last week. Karyn Denten, of La Grange Park, crossed the finish line in Boston about 30 minutes before the explosions.

"It's really moving," she said of the show of support. "I get choked up thinking about it. It's nice to have this today and just take it all in."
