The emergence of Downtown La Grange as a restaurant mecca is obvious to anyone cruising its thoroughfares. But one of its best dining values can't be seen from the street.

Nevertheless, The Hot Dog Company has attracted a growing and loyal clientele despite being tucked out of sight behind the La Grange Theatre, at the rear of the parking lot next to Horton's Ace Hardware.

Positive word of mouth among local residents and people who work downtown is paying off. If you haven't been there yet, it's a good bet your school-age kids have.

During its week-long grand opening in May, some 4,000 Chicago-style hotdogs were sold for just a dollar each—fries included.

Even at regular prices, the menu of classic American fare that includes burgers, gyros, Italian beef and sausage, tater tots and salads won't rock your pocketbook. And choosing from 71 varieties of bottled soda pop will keep you occupied while your meal is being prepared.

In a video visit, owner Michael LaPidus, who also operates the nearby and more visible Q BBQ, reveals the secrets to The Hot Dog Company's rapid success.
