What a weekend to be in La Grange!
The sun has finally come out, the weekend weather forecast looks great and there's so much going on! Here's La Grange Patch's guide to a weekend of great events in the village.
La Grange Pet Parade
The annual La Grange Pet Parade draws thousands to downtown La Grange, rain or shine! This year, the parade celebrates its 66th birthday. For some local history of celebrities who came out to the parade in the '50s, '60s and '70s click here.
When: 9:30 to 11 a.m. You should arrive early to get a good seat. The locals generally have had their spot staked out for years and get there hours before the parade starts.
Where: the route starts just passed the downtown on La Grange Road before turning on Burlington Avenue at the tracks and then again on Brainard Avenue on the way to Lyons Township High School's North Campus.
Local Secret: DeVries Grocery, 806 Arlington Ave. in La Grange, has a big cookout for the parade with burgers, brats and hot dogs. It's a great place to refuel with good, basic food after the parade is over.
La Grange Carnival
The La Grange Carnival kicks off tonight and runs through June 3. With carnival rides, games and live entertainment, this yearly event is always a great time. Plus, since it's located on Harris Avenue just off La Grange Road, you're a hop, skip and a jump away from tons of fine dining—just in case corn dogs and pizza won't cut it!
When: Friday from 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Cost: $20 for unlimited rides.
- Friday, 7 to 10 p.m.: The Bad Dads
- Saturday, 4 to 5 p.m.: Impact Performance Company
- Saturday, 5 to 7:30 p.m.: Non-Stop Entertainment DJ
- Saturday, 7:30 to 10 p.m.: Kashmir, Led Zeppelin Tribute
- Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m.: Local High School Band Spotlight

Concert to Keep the Blues Alive
Catch legendary blues saxophone player Eddie Shaw (who has played with Little Milton, Muddy Water and Howlin' Wolf) in Western Springs on Saturday night at Lyons Township High School's South Campus at the Corral.
When: 6 to 9 p.m.
Where: The Corral at South Campus (located on the south side of the school campus on Willow Springs Road).
Cost: $20 for adults, $15 for students and free for kids under five.
Local Secret: Keep an eye out for some special guest stars to show up. Patch got word that some local talent will be jumping in on the sets as well, but we can't tell you who!
If you're visiting La Grange for the Pet Parade or Carnival, this is a great reason to stick around town. The proceeds from the show will go to benefit the Blues Kids Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides instruction in the art of the blues to kids in order to pass appreciation of the music on to the next generation.
