Tates Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Shop
A neighborhood staple since 1998 when it first opened, Tates is the place to go for classic flavors and specialties like root beer floats and milkshakes. This is homemade ice cream at its best.
Want a free scoop? Starting hunting around at parks in the La Grange and La Grange Park neighborhoods. Owner Maria Marciniec has been hiding wood coins in parks and around town that can be redeemed for free scoops. Best of all, the coins are dropped off daily!
Highland Queen
For a cold treat with a drive-in feel, you've got to go to Highland Queen. Any place that's been owned and operated by the same family for over 30 years has got to be doing something right. This is the place to get soft serve in La Grange! Swing in for dessert and stick around for dinner. Who said you need to do it in order?
Red Mango
Red Mango is La Grange's one and only place that specializes in frozen yogurt. This place is always busy on the weekend. It's a great place to go for a wide-range of toppings too. The self-serve aspect is nice too, since it lets you decide how much you get in a serving. Best of all, in my humble opinion, Red Mango gets it just right in the sweet vs. sour department.
Di Nico's Pizza
For some people, eating ice cream just isn't worth it if it's not gelato, and this is where to go for it in La Grange.
My Grandpa's Store
If you were a student at Ogden Avenue School or Park Junior High, you know and love this place. Not only can you pick up a wide assortment of sweet treats on your way home from school, you can get a scoop of ice cream too. With delightful owners and a long history in the neighborhood, it's a favorite of many in the area.
Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
I have to say, I've honestly not tried the ice cream here, but I hear it's off the chains! If their caramel apples and assorted chocolates are any indication of the quality you'll get a Rocky Mountain, then sign me up for a scoop. You'll get it with a smile at Rocky Mountain. Seems like every time I talk to someone about this place, they can't help but say how great the staff is!
Cold Stone Creamery
Cold Stone is the place to go if you're a big fan of toppings—and wide selections! Cold Stone sports 25 topping choices and 16 flavors of ice cream. Additionally, you can get cupcakes, shakes and even frozen yogurt.
