Taking advantage of their last homework-free nights, socializing on a final warm summer evening before school begins, dozens of teenagers congregate at the Cossitt Avenue School playground, 115 W. Cossitt Ave. Not pictured, a handful of boys play basketball in the adjacent court and a handful more lean on upright skateboards, talking in the intersection of Harris Ave. and Madison Ave.
La Grange police recieved a call on the same day the shutter snapped this moment, Aug. 19, from the First United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cossitt Ave., requesting officers to add the playground area to its special watch; the caller complained of kids hanging out at Cossitt Avenue School after dark and possibly causing damage.
This comes after several reports of damage to the school this month. Lyons Township High School is to kick-off the academic year on Aug. 23.
