Out With the Old Editor and in With the New
Join me in welcoming new La Grange Patch Editor Darren McRoy.
Well, folks, it's been swell.
It's bittersweet for me to announce today that I'll be leaving Patch in La Grange to take on a new opportunity as editor of Patch sites in Oak Park-River Forest and Forest Park.
Having grown up in La Grange, it's been very fun to cover my hometown. Each day I've learned something new about our community. It's been truly amazing to report on and work with the dedicated people in La Grange, La Grange Park and Western Springs that make our villages so special.
I started covering La Grange and La Grange Park for Patch a little over a year and a half ago. It feels like the time has flown. In that time I've had the pleasure of working with a lot of people in our village, from Patch contributors to village staff and business owners. I've had a great time telling your stories, and I've been blown away by all the little things that go on daily behind the scenes that make the town everything that it is.
Patch's new La Grange editor will be a familiar face to many. Darren McRoy has served as Patch's Western Springs editor since the site launched. He'll be returning to Western Springs Patch today and also overseeing La Grange Patch. I know I'm leaving the site in the best of hands. If you'd like to get in touch with Darren about story ideas, questions about the site, or just to say hello, I'd recommend emailing him at Darren@Patch.com.
Seeing this site grow has been such a great experience. I could not have done it without a lot of help from all of you.
Patch is more than just a newspaper. It's a place where readers can share their knowledge with the community, a platform to start discussions and engage with your neighbors and to learn about your village. I hope that in my time as editor here I've been able to encourage thoughtful discussions of important local issues, but also entertain with stories about the delightfully interesting people who call La Grange and La Grange Park home.
I'm not going far, and I expect to be back often. I hope to continue to see everyone around town when I do.
Thank you for being the best readers ever.

Good luck, Matthew. At least you'll have more to write about in the Police Beat section.

You've done a tremendous job on our La Grange pages and you are sure to succeed in the new areas as well. I have enjoyed collaborating with you on the sunday cartoon feature... now let's collaborate on one more round of beers at Palmer's Place!

It can be tough to play in front of the home crowd! I've had the unique experience of seeing not only the quality of the work, but the effort behind the scene to deliver it. You have served the community well and I hope the new opportunity just adds another layer of experience. I've certain enjoyed the chance to proudly say, "... and my son is the editor!" Dad

So does this mean we'll finally start to see coverage of the important stories the Village trustees of LG and WS don't want reported? Or are we going to continue the love fest?

As a fourth generation LaGrange resident, I thought I knew a lot about this town. I've not been so well informed about what makes this town tick until I started reading Matt's reports in Patch. His coverage of the political workings of the village was balanced and fair, his interaction with his readers was always diplomatic, and I tried several new restaurants and stores based on his recommendations. Patch won't be the same without him!
