Ogden, Cossitt Schools Staying in DARE Program

La Grange Park schools to continue 'adopt a cop."

The DARE program will continue next school year in two schools in La Grange School District 102, according to the school's superintendent and La Grange's police chief.

The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program will continue at Ogden and Cossitt schools, said Dr. Warren Shillingburg, in response to a question asked by a reader on La Grange Patch. The schools, Barnsdale and Forest Road, in La Grange Park will continue the “Adopt a Cop” program.

These programs will continue for as long as the police departments have funding, the superintendent said.

Some La Grange schools have dropped out of the program, said Police Chief Michael Holub, but Ogden and Cossitt remain. He could not state which schools, public or private, have dropped out.

The program runs a full school year, he said.

Both of my children participated in the DARE program at Ogden school. I am so glad to hear the school has decided to remain in the program. The kids really enjoy the police officers and learn alot. I think it's an important part of their overall education.
