La Grange or LaGrange? Which Do You Prefer?

Let's settle this once and for all. Is there, or is there not a space, in the name of LaGrange/La Grange and LaGrange Park/La Grange Park?

La Grange or LaGrange? We see both versions of the town name (and the associated Park and Highlands) all over the place.

A Google search seems to prefer "La Grange," and that's the name used on the official Village website. (It's the version Patch also prefers.) But we found plenty of counter-examples in LaGrange District 102, LaGrange Highlands District 106, Emmanuel Episcopal Church of LaGrange, the VCA LaGrange Park Animal Hospital...

Which version do you prefer? And do you get annoyed when people put the space in, or leave it out? Vote and tell us in the comments!

  • Do you prefer "La Grange" or "LaGrange" (and by association, "La Grange Park" and "La Grange Highlands," or "LaGrange Park and LaGrange Highlands")?

The USPS has spoken...and "La Grange" sounds French.

Also, as a La Grange Park resident, you'd be surprised how well the acronym "LGP" can fit into music.

La Grange, with a space, is the correct spelling. La Grange is the French word meaning the barn or the farm. There are many towns with the name, as it came from the home of Marqis de Lafayette who travelled through many states, while serving on General Washington's staff. For example, Fayette County in Tennessee was named after Lafayette, and La Grange, TN was thus named to honor the famous Frenchman. La Grange,IL was named after La Grange, TN, when F.D. Cossitt fled his home in the South during the Civil War. So if anyone cares about the right spelling of La Grange, it is with a space.

That's just the logo--there's no space between "Grange" and "Patch," either. The Western Springs site logo reads "WesternSpringsPatch." Thanks for the history!!

I meant spelled, not speller. See how easy it is to make mistakes.

Wow. I see "LaGrange" so many places that I didn't expect quite this degree of response in favor of the two-word version! Has anyone mentioned this to those school districts? :-)

If You Try and Google Lagrange without a space it wont find it! Especially when using maps. You have to Put the space in for that! which is a pain in the..... I prefer without the space for ease of typing.......

I have ordered a lot of things on line. When I put in LaGrange, I get the message that the address is invalid. When I change it to La Grange then clear sailing. There is also a LaGrange in southern Illinois that has no space in it with a different zip code, of course.
