La Grange Man Kills Bat That Bit Him

Here is a list of items taken from the La Grange police blotter.

Cook County animal control tested a bat that a La Grange man told police he killed after it bit him on Aug. 26 while it was in his house near 47th Street and Park Road.

Animal control tested the bat that day and told the resident he would be notified by telephone that day if it tested positive for rabies, said Dr. Donna Alexander, director. 

The resident told police that he did not want medical attention, but was planning to contact his doctor, said Police Chief Michael Holub.

The resident reported the bite and the killing at about 12:31 a.m., and said he would hold onto the dead bat until animal control came to get it for testing.

Microphones taken at church

Someone took microphones from First United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cossitt Ave., within the last week, La Grange police were told Aug. 28.

GPS device stolen

A global positioning system device was stolen out of an unlocked car parked on the 0-100 block of Drexel Avenue on Aug. 27.

Car damaged

Someone kicked or punched the side of a car parked on the 900 block of south LaGrange Road,  police learned at 10:34 a.m. Aug. 26. Similar incidents have occurred before, said the vehicle owner, who is having problems with a neighbor.

Kids gone after calls

Four or five kids who were reported on the roof of La Grange Towers, 141 N. LaGrange Road, at about 7:33 p.m. Aug. 27 were gone when police arrived. A resident will contact the building manager to prevent further incidents.

Three of four kids, ages 3 or 4, were reported standing along the curb at 53rd Street and Brainard Avenue at about 5:37 p.m. Aug. 26  and challenging cars as they pass. An officer said the youths were gone when he arrived.

Gas smell reported

The La Grange Fire Department responded at about 9 p.m. Aug. 26 to a smell of gas in an apartment building  on the 300 block of Bluff Avenue.

Bikes found

La Grange police brought in a Raleigh men’s bike that was found abandoned in a driveway on the 300 block of Cossitt Avenue at about 5:24 p.m. Aug. 28.

A red, 18-speed  Next women’s bicycle was found in a trash container in front of the La Grange Post Office, 121 W. Hillgrove Ave., at about 6:22 p.m. Aug. 28. The chain and brakes were broken and the bicycle was described as being in bad condition. The police shift report did not indicate whether police brought the bicycle to the station.
