Inspiration: Beating the Odds

Two very special cats stole my heart at Catnap From the Heart this week.

I volunteer at Catnap from the Heart, 1101 Beach Ave., taking pictures of the cats for their Website. Most of the cats are afraid of the flash so it's a challenge to get good shots of these cats in bad lighting conditions and limited space. I'm amazed at how well adjusted most of the cats are and will respond to the camera given enough time to warm up to me.

This week two cats absolutely tugged at my heart strings. Tiger is an orange tabby that has obviously been abused. He came in with cuts and what appear to be cigarette burns. He has patches of fur missing because of skin problems too.  Despite how he'd been treated in the past, Tiger was so friendly I couldn't get him to sit still for a picture.  All this poor cat wants is love.

Destiny came to Catnap weighing less than a pound. She was completely emanciated and they did not think she would make it. Fast forward a couple of months and Destiny is just over 5 pounds, happy and healthy.

These cats reminded me that in tough times you can retreat or look to the future. They both were given lemons and made lemonade. In this busy world we live in, it's easy to let the little things get the best of us. When they start to get me, I'm going to remember Tiger and Destiny and take their lead.
