Galloping Ghost Spearheading Arcade Revival Effort

Brookfield business seeks to help revive arcade world.

Gerry Cantu and Doc Mack opened up the Galloping Ghost, 9415 Ogden Ave. in Brookfrield, on Friday the 13th last year. The ominous holiday has not stopped the business from gaining popularity and sparking a renewed interest in video game arcades—so far, they've had pretty good luck.

"In the last month three [new]  arcades have opened up," said Cantu. "It means a lot to help revive the arcade industry as a whole. We've been involved with a lot of different arcades around the country. It means a lot that we are trying to revive a dying... industry."

Video game arcades seemed destined to go the way of the drive-in theater, but the Galloping Ghost is trying to bring them back in their own way.

"It's a cool factor for older people—they remember the arcades," said Cantu. "I had a huge man—6'6'', 250 pounds, very muscular—he just stood there and was in awe of the place. He had tears in his eyes. I walked up to him and asked, 'Are you ok?' He said, "You're making me emotional. I remember all these games, this is a dream come true."
