Driver Ticketed for DUI in La Grange Park

Here is a list of items taken from the La Grange/La Grange Park police blotter.

Driver ticketed for DUI

A 57-year-old La Grange Park man was ticketed for driving under the influence and two other traffic violations when La Grange Park police stopped his car at 31st Street and Newberry Avenue at about 8:25 p.m. Aug. 18.

James J. Mularski also was ticketed for improper lane usage and making an improper right turn.

A witness called police to report a possibly intoxicated driver was going east on 31st Street at Forest Road.

A police officer who was one block away pulled onto eastbound 31stStreet at Homestead and reported seeing a Ford matching the witness’ description stopped for a passing Indiana Harbor Belt Road train. The officer said the witness was alongside him in another car and still was on the telephone to police dispatch. The witness said he had been following the car from Oak Brook and it had been moving from lane to lane.

After the train passed, the officer followed the Ford and said it hit the curb, was moving at different speeds, drifted between the curb and inside lanes and straddled the two eastbound lanes. The car turned right from the straddled lanes onto Newberry before it was stopped by police.

The driver exited the car wearing slippers, leaned against the Ford and walking slowly to the squad car, correcting his direction several times, police said. The driver had alcohol on his breath and told police he had come from a microbrewery in Lombard where he had two beers. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test but failed three field tests, police said. He then told police he had four beers.

Two incidents of property damage

The marquee at Ace Hardware, 900 E. 31st St.  was damaged, La Grange Park police learned Aug. 21.

In a seperate case of property damage, suspected gang symbols were carved into the trunk of a vehicle parked Aug. 21 on the 1500 block of Homestead Road, La Grange Park police said.

Two houses egged on Waiola

Two houses and a vehicle parked on the 800 block of south Waiola Avenue were struck by thrown eggs at about 9:30 p.m. Aug. 22, according to La Grange police. No permanent damage was reported.

Girl, 15, drives into light

A 15-year-old La Grange girl was not reported injured when she hit the accelerator instead of the brake and the 2006 Honda Odyssey she was driving left the road and struck a street light on the northwest corner of 52nd Street and Kensington Avenue at about 10:50 a.m. Aug. 20. She had been turning right from southbound Kensington to westbound 52nd Street and was not ticketed.

Two trucks collide

No injuries or tickets were reported when two trucks collided at 47th Street and East Avenue at about 10:5 a.m. Aug. 19.
