Blotter: Teens Laying on Tracks, Windows Broken and More

The following items are from Patch's reporting of the La Grange and La Grange Park police blotters.

 

Teens Lay on Tracks

Two teens were reported to be laying on the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad tracks near Bluff Avenue at about 8:05 p.m. Jan. 10. The person reporting the incident said the teens ran when officers arrived.

Windshields Broken

Windshields of vehicles parked overnight on the street of the 400 block of Homestead, 600 block of Sherwood, 900 block of Community and 700 block of Brainard avenues were found Jan. 7 to have been broken by an unknown object, according to La Grange Park police.

Rock Breaks Window

A rock 3 inches in diameter was thrown through a double-pane window of a business on the 100 block of Hayes Avenue, La Grange police learned at about 11:11 a.m. Jan. 11,. Damage was estimated at $200.

Bicyclist Wanted on Warrant

Jeremy A. Maldonado, 22, of  La Grange Park was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court in Will County on a traffic arrest when he and another bicyclist were stopped by police at about 1:50 a.m. Jan. 8 on the 900 block of north La Grange Road, according to La Grange Park police.

A police officer saw two males on bicycles riding south on the east side of La Grange Road. When stopped, they said they were on their way to a friend’s house a few blocks away. Police said they checked their names and found the outstanding warrant on Maldonado. He posted $750 bail plus a $75 fee for failure to appear, police said. 

Vacant House Burglarized

A vacant house on south Kensington Avenue was burglarized, La Grange police learned Jan. 10. Items worth less than $300 were taken.

Bus, Car Collide

No injuries were reported after a car and Grand Prairie Transit bus collided at Bluff and Cossitt avenues at about 5:02 p.m. Jan. 9. One passenger over age 70 was in the bus along with the driver.

Forced Purchase

A La Grange boy age 13 told police that a man in his 20s and wearing a dark jacket forced him to buy fruit snacks from him at La Grange Road and Burlington Avenue at about 8:50 p.m. Jan. 9.

Boat Moved

A resident of Bluff Avenue reported someone moved a boat about 20 feet in the back yard between 6 and 9 p.m. Jan. 10. La Grange police will keep a special watch on the home.

Firefighters Busy

Firefighters from La Grange, La Grange Park, Brookfield, Western Springs and the Pleasantview Fire Protection District responded to a report of smoke coming from the basement of a home on the 0-100 block of Hayes Avenue at about 9:56 p.m. Jan. 9. Firefighters left the scene within a half hour.  

The La Grange Fire Department responded at about 8:54 a.m. Jan,. 11 to a home on the 800 block of Ninth Avenue where a resident smelled gas after work was being done on a stove.

Firefighters found no problem after a strange smell was reported outside a home on the 0-100 block of Dover Avenue at about 9:08 a.m. Jan. 11.

Five Credit Cards Found

Two credit cards that had been found at Al’s Charhouse, 32 S. La Grange Rd., were turned in to La Grange police by an employee at about 8:32 a.m. Jan. 11. The cards belonged to two different men. Discover requested that one of the cards be destroyed. Police will contact the other man to get the credit card.

The same person who turned in those two cards came into the police station with three more credit cards that had been left at Casa Margarita, on the street level of the building that contains Al’s Charhouse. Visa recommended two of the cards be destroyed. The woman owning the third card was contacted to pick it up.   

Daisy Mae Found

A golden retriever named Daisy Mae was found on the 600 block of Eighth Avenue at about 11:55 a.m. Jan. 10 and turned over to its owner, who lives on Ninth Avenue.

Onlooker ‘Suspicious’

A resident of the 400 block of Waiola Avenue who had a bicycle stolen Jan. 5 out of the garage called police at about 11:37 a.m. Jan 9 after seeing a  man wearing a black jacket and gray hoodie stop in front of the house and look at the garage. Police found the youth, who said he was walking to La Grange Highlands to meet a friend and police took down his name.
