Blotter: Abandoned Cooler is 'Cool,' Minors Busted for Alcohol-Related Charges

Abandoned Cooler is ‘Cool’
La Grange police said they found nothing suspicious about an empty Igloo red cooler found near the bike rack at the La Grange Road train depot, 25 W. Burlington Ave., at about 7:06 a.m. Jan. 31.
Three Car Occupants Arrested
Three minors in a car were arrested on alcohol-related charges after La Grange Park police stopped the black 2007 Chevrolet Aveo they were in at La Grange Road and Richmond Avenue at about 4:46 a.m. Jan. 27 for having only one headlight lit.
Police said that in the car they found one open bottle each of vodka, tequila, brandy and beer; an open beer can; and five empty bottles of beer.
The driver, Jessica M. Morales, 18, of Chicago, was ticketed for improper lighting, not having a driver’s license on her and illegal transportation of alcohol. She told officers she did not bring her license because she had not planned on driving her friend’s car that night.
That friend, Fernando Leal, 18, of Summit, and Alfredo Gonzalez, 19, of La Grange Park, each was charged with a minor’s consumption of alcohol and a minor’s possession of alcohol, under village ordinances.
Hit-and-Run
The left rear of a Worth woman’s 2011 Ford Focus was struck by an unknown vehicle at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, 5101 S. Willow Springs Road, La Grange police learned at about 4:04 p.m. Jan. 24.
Walgreen’s Lot Busy
A 2010 Ford Ranger belonging to Walgreens and driven by a Roselle man was hit in the pharmacy’s parking lot at 2 N. LaGrange Road at about 2:15 p.m. Jan. 23.
No tickets were issued after a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by a Countryside woman struck a wooden fence in the Walgreen’s lot.
Two Drivers Get 2 Tickets
A Palos Hills woman received two traffic tickets after La Grange police said she turned left in front of another vehicle at Ogden Avenue and La Grange Road at about 11:14 a.m. Jan. 29, causing an accident. Elizabeth Deberry, 47, was ticketed for failure to yield while turning left and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She told police the other driver changed lanes from behind two stopped vehicles.
Cynthia Lopez, 26, of Countryside was ticketed for no valid driver’s license and driving with a clear plastic cover on her license plate after La Grange Park police stopped her car at La Grange Road and 30th Street at about 8:58 a.m. Jan. 25.
‘Speeder’ Ticketed
Christian Proa, 30, of North Riverside was ticketed for speeding and driving while his license is suspended after La Grange Park police said his sport-utility vehicle was going 37 mph in a 25-mph zone on the 300 block of Kemman Avenue at about 10 a.m. Jan. 22.
