Northwestern College’s Chicago Campus Hosts Successful Food Drive for Greater Chicago Food Depository!
[Chicago & Rosemont, IL] Students and staff at Northwestern College’s Chicago Campus (4829 N. Lipps Avenue) hosted an extremely successful Food Drive from April 18th to May 18th benefiting the Greater Chicago Food Depository, located at 4100 West Ann Lurie Place in Chicago, Illinois. Members of the College’s Business, Inc. Club and Northwestern College’s Student Services coordinated the effort in order to collect food at a time when food pantries start to grow bare. While many groups collect food during the holidays, months after the holidays end, hunger continues. Sensing that fact, the Business, Inc. Club organized this food drive to meet that public need.
The Spring Food Drive is yet another successful philanthropic endeavour driven by the members of the Business Inc. Club. “I am extremely proud of the members of our Club for their unselfish dedication to helping other people less fortunate,” commented Patricia Schultz, the Club’s advisor as well as Assistant Professor of the School of Commerce at Northwestern College. “Their inspiration to other Northwestern College students, engaging them to give of their own time and treasure, has been wonderful!”
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is Chicago’s food bank, a non-profit food distribution and training center. It provides food for hungry people as well as services to help end hunger in the community. According to its website, chicagosfoodbank.org, the Greater Chicago Food Depository distributes both donated and purchased food through a network of 650 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters, serving approximately 678,000 adults and children yearly. It also provides innovative training programs and initiatives to give patrons the tools necessary to break their individual cycles of poverty.
